The board of directors of The Fresh Market Inc. has elected Bob Sasser, president and CEO of Dollar Tree Stores, as a new member, effective immediately.

Sasser joined Chesapeake, Va.-based Dollar Tree as COO in 1999. He has been president of the company since 2001 and CEO since 2004. In his current role, he oversees all aspects of Dollar Tree's retail business in the United States and Canada. Before joining the company, Sasser held senior executive positions at Roses Stores Inc. and Michaels Stores Inc.

“Bob brings an extensive background in consumer goods, merchandising and retail operations,” noted Craig Carlock, president and CEO of The Fresh Market in Greensboro, N.C. “With first-hand experience in retail and a wealth of knowledge about expansion and distribution, he will be an excellent addition.”

Founded in 1982, The Fresh Market operates 115 specialty grocery stores in 21 Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states.
