Weis Ups Schertle to EVP

PrintWeis Ups Schertle to EVP

Weis Markets elevated Kurt Schertle to EVP from his most recent role as SVP of sales and merchandising.

In his new post, Schertle will continue to oversee all aspects of Weis Markets' marketing, merchandising, procurement and advertising for its center store, perishable and pharmacy departments, as well as overseeing the retailer’s supply chain, including its distribution and transportation teams.

Company officials said the move is part of the company’s executive succession management plan designed to help strengthen the company’s growth and ongoing business evolution.

“Kurt has played a key role in our company’s sales-building initiatives and growth program,” said David J. Hepfinger, president and CEO of the Sunbury, Pa.-based regional retailer. “As we plan for a future of continued growth and increased market share, Kurt will be taking on responsibilities in key areas that will help us increase our overall efficiencies and improve our operating performance.”

Schertle joined Weis in 2009 as VP, sales and merchandising. He has more than 20 years of food retailing experience, mostly with Minneapolis-based Supervalu, where he last worked as an SVP of marketing and merchandising.

Currently commemorating its 100th year of operation, Weis Markets operates 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
