Giant Eagle Extends Price Lock Through Winter

PrintGiant Eagle Extends Price Lock Through Winter

Giant Eagle, Inc. is extending its price lock on select items throughout the store following favorable consumer response to an earlier effort introduced last October.

Officials from the Pittsburgh-based multi-format food and fuel retailer said the “winter low price lock” aims to provide a degree of predictability in family budgets with fixed prices on designated items, even if product and commodity costs increase.

“Due to the positive customer response to our Low Price Lock during the holiday season, we are freezing prices all winter long,” said Rob Borella, Giant Eagle’s senior director of corporate communications. “Not only is Giant Eagle extending price locks on many of the most popular items from October’s campaign, but also we have added hundreds of new products often on shoppers’ lists.”

The latest round of the price lock campaign, added Borella, “Is another multi-million dollar investment Giant Eagle is making to give customers everyday low prices they can count on as they start 2013 with budget-friendly meals in mind.”

Included in the retailer’s Winter Low Price Lock is a combination of national brands as well as Giant Eagle brand products from across the store including meat, seafood, produce, deli, dairy, grocery, bakery, prepared foods and health & beauty items.

Many seasonal items extended from the original program such Nestle cocoa, Giant Eagle oatmeal and Blistex lip care remain at the same prices, as well as a variety of everyday items like Giant Eagle Greek yogurt and white bread, navel oranges, potatoes, pork tenderloin and eight-piece fried chicken. Additionally, non-food items like free pre-natal vitamins and $4 and $10 generic prescription drugs in the pharmacy department, along with the Net10 Samsung S390G mobile phone, continue to be locked.

With approximately $9.9 billion in annual sales and ranked 29 on Forbes magazine’s largest private corporations list, Giant Eagle Inc. has 230 supermarkets and 182 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, north central Ohio, northern West Virginia and Maryland.
