ShopRite of Hoboken, N.J., Set to Reopen

PrintShopRite of Hoboken, N.J., Set to Reopen

Months after sustaining extensive damage from Superstorm Sandy, the ShopRite of Hoboken, N.J., will reopen on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 with a grand reopening and ribbon-cutting celebration at 9:00 a.m. Local politicians, dignitaries and community leaders are slated to attend.

The festivities will feature food samplings and tastings from the store’s newly expanded prepared food and fresh bakery departments, as well as some of the area’s best-known restaurants. ShopRite’s adjoining liquor store, now stocked with almost 200 craft beers, will have beer and wine samplings to complement the local fare.

To mark the occasion, Inserra Supermarkets, owner and operator of the ShopRite of Hoboken and 20 other stores under the banner in New York and New Jersey, will present a donation of $25,000 to representatives from the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund.

Following the storm, Inserra undertook a complete renovation of the store. The entire site was stripped down to its frame, enabling an overhaul of its flooring, fixtures and lighting infrastructure. The store was then rebuilt using such cutting-edge green technology as glass doors on all dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting, environmentally friendly refrigerant systems, and a store-wide energy reduction system. Energy usage is expected to be lowered by as much as 50 percent for store lighting.

Additional improvements include expanded organic, natural and gluten-free products integrated into all departments; a larger prepared food department with hot and cold selections; convenient lunch or dinner options such as fresh wraps and sandwiches made to order, a sushi bar, fresh-baked pizza, and Asian specialties; a full-service gourmet coffee shop featuring blended coffee beverages, fruit smoothies and espresso drinks, as well as freshly brewed coffees and teas; a gourmet homemade cupcake bar; and fresh frozen yogurt in a range of flavors, available year-long.

Said Inserra president Larry Inserra, “We have enjoyed being a part of this tight-knit community for more than 10 years [and] we are happy to be ‘home’ again.”

The store’s reopening will also reintroduce to the community the “ShopRite From Home” service, which allows customers to place online orders from home computers or mobile devices and then come by at their convenience to pick up the packaged groceries or have them delivered to their homes, and weekly hands-on two-hour ShopRite Culinary Workshop classes for a minimal fee. Further, the store plans to introduce the free services of an in-store dietitian later this year.

ShopRite is the registered trademark of Wakefern Food Corp., a Keasbey, N.J.-based retailer-owned cooperative whose members operate nearly 250 ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.
