Boyan to Lead HEB as New President and COO
HEB this past weekend made several changes to its senior leadership team, including the promotion of Craig Boyan to president and COO.
“I’m confident that under his direction, our senior leadership team will ensure HEB’s continued growth,” said Charles Butt, chairman and CEO of San Antonio-based HEB.
Boyan, who has been with the company since 2005, was previously its chief strategic officer and COO. He assumes the duties of president from Bob Loeffler, who has volunteered to take the chief administrative officer role for two years before retiring. Loeffler has held the positions of president, COO, and SVP overseeing Houston store operations, as well as having led information services at the Texas chain.
“Craig, with his collaborative leadership style and keen insight into our customers’ needs, is well suited to lead HEB in the new decade,” said Butt.
Prior to joining HEB, Boyan was a consultant to the company as partner and head of the New York office of the Monitor Group. Monitor assists companies with corporate strategies, marketing strategies and company competitiveness.
In his COO role, he will be responsible for distribution, information solutions, the Mexico and Central Market divisions at the corporate level, food safety, and quality assurance. Howard Butt III, head of Monterrey, Mexico-based HEB Mexico will continue to report to Loeffler, as will Stephen Butt, who leads Dallas-based Central Market, headquartered in Dallas.
The grocer also appointed Martin Otto to the role of chief merchant, a title added to his current one of CFO. Otto assumes duties from Steve Harper, who will continue as a consultant. An employee of HEB since 1991, Otto has previously worked in such fields as real estate investment banking and public accounting.
Other members of the company’s senior leadership team leading HEB in the new decade are as follows:
—Gavin Gallagher, CIO
