L.A. NEW Summit to Feature Thought Leaders
Former State Department official Anne-Marie Slaughter, recent Los Angeles mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel, and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, writer and director of the documentary “Miss Representation,” will discuss women’s leadership at the Network of Executive Women’s NEW Leadership Summit, Oct. 21-23 in Los Angeles.
More than 1,000 industry executives are expected to attend the retail and consumer goods industry event at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
“The Coming Work/Family Revolution,” Slaughter’s opening keynote address, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 8:00 a.m., will examine how companies and leaders can make their businesses more family-friendly.
Greuel’s session, slated for Oct. 22 at 1:45 p.m., will deal with the “double standard” faced by women leaders and the role gender played in her mayoral campaign.
In “Redefining Leadership,” Newsom’s closing keynote, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 8:15 a.m., she’ll talk about the media’s portrayal of women and explain how greater equality in the workplace is good for women, men and business.
“These thought leaders will talk about the real-life barriers faced by women leaders,” noted NEW President and CEO Joan Toth. “More important, they will offer forward-thinking solutions that can help create a better workplace for everyone.”
The NEW Leadership Summit, the retail and consumer goods industry's largest women's leadership event, will additionally offer 11 breakout sessions and a one-on-one discussion with PepsiCo Americas Foods CEO Brian Cornell. Further, a panel of c-suite executives, among them Bert Alfonso, president, international for The Hershey Co.; Diane Dietz, chief marketing officer at Safeway Inc.; Craig Johnson, president and CEO of Altria Group Distribution Co.; and Sue Klug, chief marketing officer at Unified Grocers Inc., will speak about “The Art of Risk-Taking.”
