New Equipment Solutions for a New Year

Print New Equipment Solutions for a New Year

Supermarket foodservice operators on the lookout for new equipment can start 2011 by considering these offerings:

Beaverton, Ore.-based Evo Inc. has introduced the latest addition to its line of commercial indoor equipment, the Centric 20E, a plug-in, 120-volt electric portable tabletop display cooking solution.

Its 20-inch diameter, black-seasoned cook surface is heated by a patented dual-zone electric heater that has extremely fast heat-up and temperature recovery. Users can easily manage a wide range of menu possibilities by controlling independent heat adjustments consistently across inner and outer cook surfaces ranging from 150 degrees Fahrenheit to 525 degrees Fahrenheit, and the optional carry/storage case allows portability between functions.

With its relatively small footprint and 120-volt power requirement, the Centric 20E can be set on a table and connected to a standard power outlet.

Bob Shingler, Evo’s president and lead product designer, said: "The Centric 20E has a built-in USB port that allows program updates with customized heat ranges for managing temperature presets by item name or heat level. Now chefs can lockout presets so programmed foods will always cook at the same temperature."

Features include stainless steel construction, fully insulated sides and bottom to help maintain temperature, infinite temperature control, food holding at a minimum temperature of 150 degrees Fahrenheit, and a lighted on/off switch.

The Glenray also has a 20-quart capacity, is compatible with standard steam-table pans, and offers water level indicators for wet operation. Its dimensions are 14.5 inches long by 22.5 inches wide  by  9.25 inches high. The 120-volt, 1,200-watt, 60-hertz unit weighs 14 pounds.

Troy, Ohio-based ITW Food Equipment Group has launched a sustainable-design website, www.sustainablefoodequipment.com, which provides customers with information on how to create a more sustainable operation to reduce operating costs and decrease impact on the environment.

"Our customer awareness and deep product knowledge has shown us foodservice and grocery operators as well as suppliers are pledging to reduce waste, energy use and water use," said Tom Szafranski, president of ITW Food Equipment Group-Commercial. "From this insight, we created the sustainable food equipment site as a resource for our customers, showing them how to save money on energy, water, waste and maintenance so operations run as efficiently as possible."

In addition to providing an energy savings calculator, the framework of the site is categorized by energy savings, water savings, waste reduction and preventive maintenance. Each category includes best practices and tips, case studies, and emerging technologies and products.

The site will also host information on, and the application for ,the Hobart Center for Foodsweervice Sustainability grant, which awards a $5,000 grant to the individual or company judged to have the best-executed foodservice or food retail sustainability project of the year. Hobart is one of ITW Food Equipment Group’s companies.
