Giant Eagle to Remodel Ohio Stores

PrintGiant Eagle to Remodel Ohio Stores

Giant Eagle is planning remodeling projects at some of its stores in the Akron and Canton, Ohio, area. The Pittsburgh-based grocer plans to expand its Jackson Township store in The Strip and its North Canton store in Washington Square Shopping Center, according to local press reports.

While Giant Eagle officials declined to discuss new projects, the company did provide local media with information about the ongoing expansion at its Howe Avenue store in Akron’s Chapel Hill area.

The newly remodeled store will include an expanded produce section, with enhanced organic offerings; a new cafe with a cold and hot food bar, and more grab-and-go selections; an expanded deli with a dedicated cheese shop; an expanded meat and seafood department; lareger frozen and dairy sections; and a new drive-through pharmacy.

Demolition for the expansion began last October, but Giant Eagle declined to provide a timeline for completion of the project.

Plans filed with the city of Akron indicate Giant Eagle plans to add about 30,000 square feet to the 60,000-square-foot store, according to local press reports.

In Jackson Township, Giant Eagle has signed a lease for the space of its former next-door neighbor, Stein Mart, to expand its current store, the developer told local media. No plans have been submitted to Jackson Township on the expansion, according to township officials.

In North Canton, according to plans submitted to the city, Giant Eagle’s plans call for a 2,000-square-foot expansion into adjoining space, at a cost of $233,000.
