PrintGiant-Landover, Phillips Unite for ‘Ultimate Crab Challenge’

Giant Food, LLC and restaurant chain Phillips Seafood are co-hosting the first “Ultimate Crab Challenge” recipe contest, which asks home chefs to enter their best original crab recipes for a chance to win $1,000 and the opportunity to have their maritime creation featured on the menu at Phillips Harborplace in Baltimore.

Entrants can submit recipes for hot or cold dishes — which must call for at least a pound of crab and take no more than 30 minutes to prepare — at www.UltimateCrabChallenge.com through Aug. 15, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. A panel of Giant and Phillips Seafood chefs will serve as preliminary judges. Recipes will be rated according to taste, ease of preparation, creativity and clarity of cooking instructions

The top three contest finalists will take part in a cook-off on Saturday, Sept. 11, during the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Md.

Owned by Ahold USA, Landover, Md.-based Giant operates 180 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates.

Ocean City Md.-based Phillips operates restaurants in Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Jersey and the District of Columbia, as well as various Phillips Seafood Express outlets. The company also offers a range of products available at retail.
