Tops Reopens 12 Stores Under Own Banner

Tops Markets LLC has officially reopened 12 former Grand Union stores in eastern and northern New York under the Tops banner. July 2 ceremonies attended by senior company officials, district and store managers, and local community officials and charities marked the reopenings.

At the events, Tops revealed capital improvements made at each store and donations made to various local charities through the grocer’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.

“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to that ensure our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities and an increased variety of products that our neighborhood stores will offer,” said Frank Curci, president and CEO at Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops. “And we want to continue the tradition of giving back and being active members of the local community.”

Actual store improvements vary by store, added Curci, but all now offer a broader variety and selection of popular brands, interior and exterior renovations, and refinished storefronts.

The 12 locations were part of a 21-store acquisition that Tops completed last year. The reopening stores are located in Corinth, Warrensburg, Bolton Landing, Saranac Lake (two), Elizabethtown, Chestertown, Peru, North Creek, Ausable Forks, Schroon Lake and Northville.

Tops operates 159 full-service supermarkets – 154 company-owned and five franchise locations -- under the Tops, Grand Union and Bryant’s banners in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
