    Ukrop’s Bows New Oven-To-Table Fresh Meals Line

    In tandem with the 20th anniversary of its central commissary, Ukrop’s Super Market has introduced a new signature line of entrees, sides, and desserts under the Ukrop’s Bakes brand. Designed to be quick solutions for everyday meal planning, Ukrop’s Bakes are “oven to table-ready” in about 30 minutes.

    “What began in 1989 with our introduction of a line of just 10 ready-made, chilled prepared foods has evolved into a product line which today contains over 250 dishes,” notes Bobby Ukrop, chairman, president and CEO of the eponymous Richmond, Va.-based regional grocer. “For two decades now, our customers have relied on Ukrop’s to ‘do the cooking’ … Our new Ukrop’s Bakes will ensure that our busy, on-the-go customers, looking for quick and easy meals, will keep coming back for more.”

    The mainstays of the new line are seven items: Baked Manicotti, Baked Spaghetti, Chicken Cobbler, Sautéed Summer Squash, Roasted Eggplant and Tomato Provençal, Baked Beans with Bacon as a side dish, and Peach Blueberry Crisp for dessert. Pasta Primavera and White House Roll Bread Pudding will be rolled out next, and additional items are scheduled to debut throughout 2009. New vegetarian dishes have also been added, including Baked Manicotti, Sautéed Summer Squash, Roasted Eggplant and Tomato Provencal and the upcoming Pasta Primavera.

    The products, which can be oven-baked, microwaved or cooked on the grill, meet a variety of dietary needs, with vegetarian, low-fat, all-natural and gluten-free options. Using convenient, sturdy aluminum containers that are reusable, recyclable and have resealable lids (no need for additional containers for leftovers), Ukrop’s Bakes can be easily stacked in the refrigerator.

    Julie Bishop, Culinary & Wellness Trends manager for the family-held chain, said that the seasonally driven menu was designed with busy families in mind. “We think Ukrop’s Bakes is the answer for those who want to provide nutritious meals for their families, but don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing one,” she noted

    The new fresh meals line is available in all of Ukrop’s locations in Richmond, Williamsburg, Fredericksburg and Roanoke, Va.

    Ukrop’s Super Markets operates 27 grocery stores, Joe’s Market (a regional specialty market), a central bakery and kitchen, and a distribution center.
