United Names Taylor New CEO

The Board of Advisors of United Supermarkets, LLC, has appointed Robert Taylor its new EVP and CEO, co-presidents Gantt and Matt Bumstead said yesterday. Taylor has helmed the Lubbock, Texas-based grocer in an interim capacity since the resignation of Dan Sanders on Feb. 8.

Taylor has been a member of the United¹s leadership team since July 2007, when the company acquired R.C. Taylor Distributing, which Taylor¹s family had operated in Lubbock since 1949. Taylor who was the company¹s president at the time of the purchase, then became United¹s VP of logistics, overseeing the grocer¹s distribution operations, until he was appointed interim CEO last week.

A member of the Texas Association of Wholesale Distributors, of which he was president for two years, Taylor has been the recipient of many industry awards, including Texas Wholesaler of the Year, Southwestern Community Service Award and 2009 Texas Distributor of the Year. Among his community affiliations are the Southwest Rotary Club, The Salvation Army, and various the Lubbock Area United Way. He is also a former elder and church treasurer at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

United Supermarkets operates 50 stores under three formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United.
