United Supermarkets Latest to Offer Bonus Tied to Economic Stimulus Checks

The Texas grocer plans to offer a 15 percent bonus to any customer who cashes his or her economic stimulus check for United gift cards.

Regional supermarket chain United Supermarkets said yesterday it plans to offer a 15 percent bonus to any customer who cashes his or her economic stimulus check for United gift cards.

Beginning May 30, the promotion will be eligible in all 47 locations of United Supermarkets, Market Street, and Amigos United. It ends on Labor Day.

The U.S. Treasury began sending economic stimulus payments to over 130 million American households in early May. Many other supermarket operators are taking advantage of the short-term boost to the economy to try and capture sales in gift cards.

United Supermarkets is based in Lubbock, Texas.
