United Supermarkets to Make Shopping Fun for Kids

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- North Texas Area United Way, in collaboration with Lubbock, Texas-based regional retailer United Supermarkets, will launch a new program, entitled "Shop and Learn," this Saturday (Jan. 26) from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the United Supermarkets location at 2522 Iowa Park Road here.

The year-round program was designed to encourage parents to "turn weekly shopping trips into a learning and enjoyable experience with their young children," United Supermarkets said in a statement.

On each visit to the store, children and parents complete age-appropriate activities together. Activities are brief and only take a few moments during the shopping trip (e.g., ask your child to find one red fruit and one red vegetable). Children who complete five weeks worth of activities receive a free high-quality hardback book to take home.

On Kickoff Day this weekend, parents and children will enjoy:
-- Free learning activities throughout the store,
-- Making a healthy snack together,
-- Creating their own play dough, and
-- Visiting with "Tony the Tiger."
Shop and Learn materials are available in both English and Spanish.
