United Supermarkets to Sharpen Fuel Management

The chain said heightened fuel price volatility and the expansion of its retail fuel sites throughout Texas are the motivating factors.

United Supermarkets has chosen FuelQuest's Fuel Management Services to streamline and manage its bulk fuel processes.

"Heightened fuel price volatility, coupled with the expansion of our retail fuel sites throughout Texas, required us to seek out a strategic fuel sourcing solution to implement best practices across our statewide fuel operations," said Chris Bridgford, fuel director of Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets.

The cahin said it is going with a system from Houston-based FuelQuest, Inc. FuelQuest said its technology will allow United Supermarkets to:
-- Gain strategic consulting on supply portfolio, contracting and sourcing
-- Reduce financial exposure to volatile markets with reduced freight and fuel costs
-- Increase transparency with fuel purchase, transport, and taxes
-- Centralize control and provide real-time visibility into all stores
-- Optimize inventory and dispatch control
    -- Automate invoice reconciliation.

United Supermarkets operates 47 stores in 27 cities across north and west Texas.
