U.S. Chamber Lauds Wegmans Corporate Stewardship

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. has been named as a finalist for a Corporate Citizenship Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center, which annually recognizes companies’ strong financial success, sustained contribution to community, and social progress.

“Recognition like this is only possible because of our employees,” says CEO Danny Wegman. “I feel such pride in what they are able to accomplish by living and demonstrating our company’s values every day.”

Nominated by The Food Bank of the Southern Tier in Elmira, N.Y., the 74-store supermarket chain was chosen as a finalist as a result of a combination of factors that reflect its recent social contributions, business operations, and economic performance.

Four additional companies are honored as awards finalists this year, including Best Buy, ITT Corp., Oracle, and the PNC Financial Services Group. The winner will be announced on Dec. 1 at BCLC’s 10th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner at the U.S. Chamber’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.

The family-owned Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. operates stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
