Retailers are invited to take part in the USA Rice Federation-sponsored September National Rice Month Store Promotion Contest, in which they can win cash prizes while boosting sales and profits.
Based on creativity and impact on rice sales, participating retailers could win a grand prize of $3,000, a second-place prize of $1,000, or six third-place prizes of $500 each. Entrants must promote U.S. rice products creatively during September and submit a completed entry form along with proof of performance for each element of the promotion. All entries must be received by Oct. 19.
The Arlington, Va.-based federation offers the following tips to retailers interested in entering the contest:
- Plan Ahead: Advance planning is key to a successful promotion.
- Be Creative: Generate excitement among employees to help select a theme for the promotion.
- Go Store-wide: Add interest to the promotion through a combination of in-store displays, cross-merchandising, announcements, flyers, coupons, recipes, sampling, reduced-price features, deli offerings and more.
According to the federation, about 85 percent of the rice eaten in the United States is grown here, and sustainably grown U.S. rice helps to reduce retailers’ food miles because it’s a domestically grown product. Packages of 100 percent U.S.-grown rice sport a “Grown in the USA” logo.
