Vidalia Onion Comm. Hosting $1,000 Gas Giveaway at PMA Fresh Summit

The Vidalia Onion Committee encourages retail produce officials set to roll into Orlando this weekend for the Produce Marketing Association's (PMA) Fresh Summit 2008, to visit its booth (#2100) in the Georgia Pavilion, where they can test their sweet onion knowledge for a chance to win prizes, including a $1,000 gas card.

PMA Fresh Summit attendees will get an opportunity to spin a trivia wheel and answer questions on science, history, culture or Vidalia onion "fun facts." Attendees answering correctly will have a chance to win a Vidalia Onion Committee prize based on the question's level of difficulty; a correct answer also wins qualified attendees a chance to win a $1,000 gas card.

"We have tested consumers' knowledge of Vidalias all summer during our national Original Sweet Onion Trivia Contest, which had almost 7,000 entries," says committee executive director Wendy Brannen.  "Now it's time to test the retailers and see what they know about Georgia's famous sweetie."

The PMA version of the Original Sweet Onion Trivia Contest is a take on the Vidalia Onion Committee's national contest of the same name, which quizzed consumers on the history and heritage of the Vidalia onion. The Web-driven contest playfully educated consumers about the pioneer of all sweet onions and, in the process, pushed retail sales.
