Wal-Mart Going Hormone Free with Milk

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is the latest food retailer to get suppliers to take the hormones out of its milk. On Friday the mega-chain said its Great Value milk is now being sourced exclusively from cows that have not been treated with artificial growth hormones like recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST).

Wal-Mart's Sam's Club banner is also exclusively offering milk selections from suppliers that have pledged not to treat cows with rbST, the Bentonville, Ark.-based company said.

Wal-Mart said that while the FDA has stated that milk from cows treated with rbST poses no risk to human health, many customers nonetheless are telling Wal-Mart they want to have access to milk without it, and that's why the retailer instituted the new policy.
