BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart yesterday affirmed what it called an "aggressive holiday pricing plan," noting that it has increased its price reductions, or "rollbacks," by 20 percent over last year. Just this week the retailer is rolling out price cuts on 15,000 items that include food, toys, home products, and apparel.
There will be more price cuts to come as the holiday season nears, the retailer said.
"These rollbacks are just the start of special values we'll unveil now through December to remind people that our prices will remain unbeatable and you will save money on great products here," said Bill Simon, e.v.p. and c.o.o., Wal-Mart, in a statement.
Yesterdays' announcement of 15,000 rollbacks comes on the heels of Wal-Mart's Oct. 1 early rollbacks on toys.
Examples of new food savings added to the basket this week include: Motts Applejuice -- 2 for $3; Duncan Heines Box Brownies (19.8-21 oz.) -- 2 for $2; Hillshire Farm Cocktail Smokies -- 2 for $5; Progresso Soups -- 2 for $3; and Hershey's Baking Pieces (8-12 oz.) -- 2 for $3. These prices represent the rollbacks to be taken at the majority of Wal-Mart stores nationwide, the retailer said.
