Wal-Mart to Test 24-Hour Store Ops in Canada

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- A Winnipeg Wal-Mart location is reportedly set to become the first in the country to open 24 hours a day on a regular basis this fall.

Many U.S. Wal-Mart locations already operate around the clock, but not so in Canada. According to a report in the local press, the manager at the Winnipeg unit said customers have expressed interest in having the store open 24 hours a day. However, the manager also noted that the store will only be open only from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays, in order to adhere to provincial shopping regulations. The location will reopen at 7 a.m. on Mondays.

Only the core area of the store will be open overnight, with services like the pharmacy and automotive center maintaining regular hours.
