Wegmans to Host Grilled Veggie Party

Event will offer seasonal dishes with a healthy twist

To help kick off grilling season, Wegmans Food Markets will hold a Grilled Veggie Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday June 22 at all of its locations. Attendees will be able to find out more about the featured dishes at tasting and cooking demo stations positioned throughout the store.

Activities to be offered at the event include a “Wheel of Grilling” that tests knowledge of best grilling practices, a drawing to win a Grilling Basics gift set worth $40, and a passport mapping out the tasting stations and encapsulating Wegmans’ recommended grilling techniques. Youngsters can complete a scavenger hunt card by collecting matching stickers at each station.

Among the items slated to be sampled are Grilled Zucchini with Garlic Cheese Butter in Produce, Grilled Veggies with Chipotle Lime Butter at the veggie bar, $6 Meal Italian Classics Sausage with Peppers & Onions in the prepared food section, a ready-to-cook Southwest Black Bean Turkey Burger topped with Grilled Portabella Mushroom Bruschetta in the meat department, a Brown Sugar Salmon Burger & Grilled Corn on the Cob with Chipotle Lime Butter in the seafood department, and a Tomato & Bean Veggie Burger in the Frozen Food area.

“Because there’s ample scientific evidence that eating vegetables helps people enjoy better health, Wegmans keeps developing new ways to make vegetables ‘craveable,’” explained Jane Andrews, nutrition and product labeling manager at Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans. “We want to make it easy for families to put healthy meals on the table that everybody likes. Eating five cups of fruits and vegetables every day has many benefits. It helps people maintain a healthy weight and have better blood pressure readings, and lowers their risk of many health problems.”

“Busy families will especially love how quickly the dishes featured at the Grilled Veggie Party are table-ready at home," added Mark Makovec, a Wegmans executive chef. “We think we’ve got some real winners with plenty of taste appeal, but we kept the ingredients and instructions very simple so success at home is easy, and the meal’s on the table in minutes.”

Some stations will provide videos demonstrating how to prepare the dishes at home. Wegmans also offers grilling tips in its online Summer Videos series.

Family-owned Wegmans operates 81 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
