Wegmans to Offer Full-Service Restaurant in Pa. Store

Wegmans Food Markets’ Collegeville, Pa., store, which is set to celebrate its grand opening on Sunday, Oct. 11, will include a first for the family-owned supermarket chain: The Pub, a full-service restaurant located within the Market Café eating area.

The Collegeville Market Café features combined indoor/outdoor seating for over 300 customers, including Pub seating and more than 60 seats in the area’s Timber Room, which features a working fireplace. Café offerings include burritos and panini sandwiches, freshly made sushi, pizza, subs and an Asian-inspired Wokery buffet and Fresh Foods Bar. Also available are Wegmans’ $6 meals and $5 pasta bowls, created by the company in response to customer requests for affordable yet healthier prepared food options.

“We want this to be a great place for families to dine,” said executive chef Chris Happel. “Our philosophy is to start with the best ingredients, go easy on sauces and seasoning, and let those simply prepared foods shine on the plate. Customers can watch dinner being cooked in The Pub and ask the chef any questions they’d like -- so they’re learning more about making something they might want to try at home.”

The store’s debut is highly anticipated, according to Wegmans, which said it received 6,147 applications for 550 available part-time and full-time positions. The store employs a total of 600 people. Additionally, the company noted that over 11,000 consumers have applied online for a Shoppers Club card, and 4,000-plus have entered the “Wegmans-in-5-Words” Contest, a four-week online contest with weekly winners.

The 132,000-square-foot location will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to the grocer.

Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans operates 74 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
