Wegmans Recalls Own-brand Sandwich Rolls

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. here recalled 18-ounce Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Country Wheat 6 Sandwich Rolls with a best-if-used-by date of Oct. 10, because the packages might actually contain potato rolls, which contain a milk allergen not declared on the label.

The bread was produced on Oct. 1, and would have been available in Wegmans locations between Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, according to the retailer, which added that product with the relevant code date is no longer on store shelves.

Although no illnesses have been reported to date, Wegmans issued the recall because consumption could cause a serious or even life-threatening reaction in people with milk allergies.

Concerned customers should return the product to Wegmans for a full refund, Wegmans said. The grocer advised customers who have eaten the product and feel unwell to see a doctor, and referred those with additional questions about the recall to its consumer affairs department at (800) WEGMANS, ext. 4760.

The rolls are sold exclusively at Wegmans stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
