Wegmans Starts Hiring for 1st New England Store

Wegmans Food Markets has begun recruitment for full-time positions for its Northborough, Mass. Store -- the company’s first New England location – which is slated to open its doors in October. Among the available full-time positions are customer service, entry-level management positions and culinary professionals. The Northborough store will employ about 600 people, 550 of whom Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans intends to hire from the surrounding community. Of these positions, 150 will be full-time. Hiring for part-time positions will take place at a later date.

Full-time applicants may apply online at www.wegmans.com. Wegmans will host career information sessions at its employment office in Westborough, Mass., next month and will start arranging interviews with job candidates in March.

“At Wegmans, we have always been able to provide our customers with exceptional food and service, because we are committed to hiring good people with a passion to learn and grow,” noted Marybeth Stewart, Wegmans Human Resources Manager for New England. “With flexible scheduling, a competitive pay and benefit package, and a true family-like environment, Wegmans is recognized as one of the country’s best places to work year after year.”

Add Northborough store manager Kevin Russell, who began his career at Wegmans a quarter-century ago as a produce clerk: “We are looking for employees to grow with the company as so many of us have.” Wegmans has a total workforce of about 41,000 employees, 12.5 percent of whom have been with the grocer for more than 15 years.

The 145,000-square-foot Northborough supermarket will be part of Northborough Crossing, a $100 million shopping and residential complex located at the intersection of Routes 9 and 20. Wegmans, which currently operates 77 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland, plans to open additional New England  locations in the future, but has provided no details as yet.
