    Winn-Dixie’s ‘Beef People’ Goes Mobile

    Second round of prizes offered in social media game

    Winn-Dixie’s “The Beef People - Best Beef in the Land Instant Win Game and Sweepstakes” has proved so successful that the Southeast regional grocer is offering it again – now expanded to be mobile- and tablet- compatible. Shoppers can take part by trying their luck once daily until Aug. 31.

    Initially launched on Winn-Dixie’s Facebook page in July, the game attracted more than 46,000 players.

    “The Beef People Social Media Game was a terrific way for us to reinforce our position as Beef People and introduce WD Brand Choice Angus Beef,” noted Mary Kellmanson, SVP of marketing at Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn-Dixie. “Beef fans had so much fun, we decided to bring it back for a second time and add mobile and tablet formats, doubling the opportunity to win free steak!”

    Current and future Winn-Dixie shoppers who “like” Winn-Dixie’s Facebook page will encounter six cuts of beef that Winn-Dixie carries: filet, New York strip, sirloin, flank, T-bone and rib eye. Flipping and matching three out of six cuts of meat on the virtual Winn-Dixie grill wins players prizes. In July, Winn-Dixie gave out prizes to 186 winners, providing gift cards for steaks in denominations of $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100, as well as the grand prize to one winner of free WD Brand Choice Angus Beef for a year.

    A subsidiary of Bi-Lo Holdings, the ninth-largest traditional supermarket chain in the United States, Winn-Dixie employs nearly 40,000 associates at 479 grocery stores and 368 in-store pharmacies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
