More than 200 children of Winn-Dixie associates got the chance to learn about the grocery industry -- including creating a "commercial" for Winn-Dixie -- when they accompanied their parents to work as part of the annual "Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day" last week.
As part of the daylong festivities, the children heard presentations on "Healthy eating & lifestyle," merchandising, and marketing. They also got to play an interactive Winn-Dixie Jeopardy-style game.
During the afternoon, Winn-Dixie's marketing department assisted the kids taping a Winn-Dixie "commercial." Children 12 and older got to "star" and "direct" each other in the "commercial" at the company's production studio in Jacksonville, Fla. Personalized DVDs of each child's commercial will be given to parents.
"Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day" is a national effort through which adults can show girls and boys career opportunities they may have otherwise never known existed. It's also a chance for children to have a better understanding of their parents' work.
