Winn-Dixie's "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" Program to Aid Red Cross

Customers at Winn-Dixie stores across the country can help those affected by the recent hurricanes by making a quick donation at checkout. The Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer's program, "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," will help replenish the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.

Winn-Dixie customers will find donation sheets available at all store registers, where they can donate an amount between 50 cents and $500 directly to the American Red Cross. The cashier will scan the donation sheet, which automatically adds the amount designated to the customer's bill. "Our neighbors face a long and difficult recovery process, and we want to do everything we can to help them," said Terry Grooms Derreberry, manager of corporate giving for the 500+-store chain.

The Red Cross provided food, shelter and other assistance to the communities affected by storms that hit Florida and the Gulf Coast during the past month. The organization launched a national drive to raise $100 million to keep the depleted Disaster Relief Fund afloat.
