Giant Carlisle Launches Fresh Meal Kits

Giant Food Stores has rolled out a fresh meal kit program at two stores in Camp Hill and Hampden Township, Pa. Offered in the deli or prepared food departments, the kits contain pre-measured fresh ingredients to make two servings of a meal, along with step-by-step instructions.

“Our customers are busy, and these new fresh meal kits are another innovative way we are helping them to save time and eat well by getting a delicious and convenient home-cooked meal on the table,” noted Erik Keptner, SVP of sales, merchandising and marketing at Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant. “We include only the freshest meat and produce, all pre-measured, at a cost less than if you were to buy all of the ingredients yourself.”

The kits, which will vary by season, are all ready to prepare and cook in 35 minutes or less. Among the current varieties are pan-seared chicken breast with creamy mushroom sauce, garlic roasted green beans and seasoned wild rice; baked chicken parmesan with rosemary Yukon gold potato wedges and fresh ratatouille; mini Italian-style meatloaf with couscous and fresh vegetables; peppercorn steak with creamy blue-cheese sauce, chive mashed potatoes, and garlic-roasted broccoli and cauliflower; and pan-seared boneless pork chops with apple and honey mustard sauce, roasted Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes.

Each two-serving kit costs $14.99; two kits, serving four people, go for $24.99.

As well as being available at the Camp Hill and Hampden Township stores, the kits can be purchased by customers of e-grocer Peapod, a sister company of Giant, in the Harrisburg, Pa., and Jersey City, N.J., areas. Giant also plans to introduce the kits at 10 Philadelphia-area stores in late January 2016.

Peapod already delivers fresh co-branded meal kits with pasta brand Barilla in several Midwestern markets and the New York metropolitan area.

A division of Ahold USA, Giant/Martin’s operates almost 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners.
