Inserra Celebrates 10 Years of In-store RDs

8/29/2016

Inserra Supermarkets’ ShopRite of Wallington, N.J., is both demonstrating and celebrating 10 years of its in-store dietitian program with healthy-themed events from September 10-19.

The theme of the week-plus celebration is "Healthy Meals Makeovers," and will include better-for-you product and recipe samplings, raffles and giveaways. The event kicks off on Sept. 10 with a health and wellness fair, complete with fitness and postural assessments with a physical therapist, including backpack safety screenings for children.

Many of the family-owned Inserra Supermarkets, which operates 22 ShopRites in New Jersey and New York, will feature Healthy Meal Makeover-themed events, such as heart healthy cooking classes, “Build a Better Pizza” family meal nutrition night, and product demonstrations.

Inserra’s in-store dietitians are at the center of the company’s free nutrition and wellness programming, aimed at improving the health and wellness of customers and associates alike. Under the direction of Lindsey Inserra, VP of marketing and corporate health and wellness, the dietitians lead an array of store-based events each month, such as cooking classes for adults and kids, nutrition counseling, health screenings and much more. The dietitians also work in the local communities they serve, often partnering with hospitals, schools and nonprofits to conduct free workshops and seminars.

Research conducted by Progressive Grocer reveals that RDs have the greatest impact on shoppers, the community and store associates through individual and group counseling, in-store consultations and in-store clinics and tours. Over the years, Inserra ShopRite’s have supported such programs, as well as the Meal of the Week program that bundles ingredients and a recipe for a nutritious home-cooked meal, and its Produce Pick of the Week.
