Raley’s Gives Checkstands Healthful Update

Raley’s has implemented better-for-you checkstands chain-wide, removing artificially sweetened carbonated soft drinks from cold cases while upgrading the snack and treat selection to include more granola bars, nutrition bars and better-quality candy options.

“We know impulsive choices happen at the checkstand,” said Keith Knopf, Raley’s COO. “We are proud to take a brave next step by making it easier for shoppers to choose healthy, more nutritious options.”

The new checkstands are another move toward helping customers make more nutritious choices that also are affordable. Last month, Raley’s began offering free fruit for children, while in August, it eliminated store-brand carbonated soft drinks sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup and containing artificial colors or flavors, including diet varieties. Additionally, it eliminated tobacco products from stores last year.

In addition to these changes in the store experience, Raley’s has launched the Let's Begin campaign in stores and on Raleys.com, which helps educate customers on how to make more informed decisions when purchasing food.

West Sacramento, Calif.-based Raley’s operates 120 stores in Northern California and Nevada under four banners: Raley’s Supermarkets, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source.
